Jp Simões

JP Simões was born in Coimbra in 1970.

Even though JP has studied Journalism, Law, Communication, Script, Saxophone, Arabic Language and even has a Master Degree in Theory of Literary from the University of Lisbon, this artist has played mostly music since 1995, with the Pop dell’Arte, Belle Chase Hotel, Tati Quintet, (etc. ..) beyond performing and as a solo artist as well.

JP Simões wrote short stories, song lyrics, and screenplays and actively participated as a musician and actor in films by Fernando Vendrell, Edgar Pera, António Ferreira and other movie directors. JP Simões also signed soundtracks for documentaries.

In theater, he wrote the libretto of “Ópera do Falhado” (101 Noites Publishment, 2004) sharing the musical creation with composer Sérgio Costa. Also in 2004 releases the album of Tati Quintet.

In 2007, the album “1970” (Valentim de Carvalho) is released and it is his first solo record. Alongside, he edits “O Vírus da Vida/The Virus of Life” (Sextante Publishing, 2007), a storybook with illustrations by André Carrilho.

On television, JP conceived, edited and presented the series of outreach programs of the new Portuguese music “Quilómetro Zero”, broadcasted by RTP2 (Portuguese tv channel) in 2008. This tv show was the winner of the “Wide Angle Documentary Festival” in 2009, promoted by RTP 2.

In April 2009, releases “Boato/Rumor” which recovers some of the previously released songs. In November 2010 releases a new album, carried out in partnership with composer Afonso Pais: “Onde Mora o Mundo / Where the World Lives”.

With the singer Marcia collaborates in the theme “Pele que há em Mim/Skin that is in me,” composing the male version of the song and becoming one of the biggest hits of 2012.

In June 2012, and after Jorge Palma, Camané, Fausto Carlos Bordalo Dia and Carlos Tê, the next artist to get “Carte Blanche” by CCB was the musician JP Simões, in which premiered the project “A Vida Ilustrada”.

Invited by São Luiz Teatro Municipal in Lisbon, in 2012, JP Simões devises the musical play “A intima Farsa/The Intimate Farce”. JP Simões ventured to tread the paths of musical theater proposing, with self-irony that characterizes him, a review of the history of a writer in middle age crisis.

“Roma” was published in May 2013 by Fnac, and soon reached the national top chart and in the same week, the third International Top Sales chart. Still in 2013, JP Simões sees his “Roma” selling out in Fnac stores all over the country.

Well received by critics and the audience, “Roma” is almost a synthesis of the work that Jp Simoes has been developing all these years, performing solo nationwide. In more than an forestall album, the songwriter gathers musicians like Tomas Pimentel, Norton Daiello, Tercio Borges, Gabriel Godoi, José Salgueiro or Jorge Reis, and the voice of Luanda Cozetti.
